This year will almost undoubtedly be a watershed year for our party. We continue to experience significant momentum as more Canadians than ever before see the Green Party as the political vehicle that truly represents their concerns. Our positive impact in the national debate continues to grow, manifesting itself through steady gains in polls, with several of them projecting seats in Ontario and British Columbia as of late.
Our continued success has been possible only through your active and continuing support. Thank you so much for your contribution to our party!
I am proud to invest my time and energy in the Green Party. We are progressive, fiscally responsible and will be debt free by the end of this year. It is exciting to work for a party that truly believes growing our economy and protecting our environment are not mutually exclusive, but must go hand in hand if we want to live in a sustainable future.
The Government has shown its disregard for democracy and the will of Canadians having broken their own election laws and not once but twice proroguing Parliament. A fourth election in six years is now more likely than ever. The Conservative ‘good news’ budget failed to show leadership and address many of the urgent issues facing our nation, including a significant structural deficit that will worsen with an aging population. Painful choices have been delayed until next year in an attempt to capture their elusive majority government before then. Therefore, we must be ready for an election in six months!
We are well positioned to win our first seats this fall, and to increase our vote share across the country. However, to solidify these efforts, I need your help.
There are two strategic ways you can immediately help us this spring. First is our debt, which is due to the previous election. Our current schedule will enable us to pay this off by the end of the year. However, to best prepare for a fall election, accelerating our schedule to pay off the debt by Labour Day would significantly improve our electoral position. Please consider investing your income tax return by topping up your federal donation early this year with a contribution of $857.
Secondly, our best chance to win a seat in a fall election will be Elizabeth’s riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands. This is our beachhead for winning additional seats across the country, with money already invested until summer. Your contribution of $1,100 to the “Green Party SGI Riding Association” will help ensure stable funding can continue leading up to the election.
As a thank you for your generous donation of $857, your registration fee to the 2010 BGM in Toronto will be waived.
If topping up your 2010 donation is too difficult at this time, please consider becoming a monthly donor for $90. Your monthly contribution helps guarantee sustainable funding and will still have a critical impact on our ability to accelerate debt repayment and support Elizabeth in Saanich-Gulf Islands.
In past years, with your support, we have raised the necessary resources that enabled us to earn the trust of nearly one million voters in the last election. I hope that I can continue to count on your support to meet our strategic goals in 2010. I look forward to the upcoming election as our most strategic and significant effort to date.
