Post Convention Update

It’s an exciting time to be Green in Ontario!

Last weekend, we concluded our successful Annual Policy Convention in London where a bold future direction for our party began to take shape.

This began with the election of Mike Schreiner as the new leader of the Green Party of Ontario! A successful entrepreneur, community advocate and well-known Green commentator, Mike brings a focused plan and a formidable amount of experience to the table and I know we’ll be well served by his leadership as we prepare for the next election in 2011.

Never has the Green Party message been more relevant than it is today. As a movement we led from day one, ‘going green’ is a way of life for everyday Ontarians. We need our politicians at Queen’s Park to catch up. We need Green MPPs in the Legislature!

The GPO is the strongest it has ever been and in a great position to forge ahead. We are debt free and ready to build up our funding in order to prepare us for a watershed election in 2011. Over the next two years, we plan to meet our aggressive – yet attainable – goal of running a $1 million campaign and electing the first green Members to Queen’s Park.

You have been a great supporter in past years with your contributions and volunteer time. We are asking you again to continue to show your support so we can be on the best footing possible for 2011. The competition will be fierce and we must be ready.

In 2009, with the support we received from our extremely strong team of contributors and volunteers, we have raised the funds that enabled us to continue to grow. We actively engaged in two by-election campaigns, hired our new Executive Director, Becky Smit, and passed the torch after 16 years of strong leadership from Frank de Jong.

We now hope that we can continue to count on your support to meet our election readiness goals. I look forward to the 2011 election as our most strategic and significant effort to date.

Many thanks,

David Scrymgeour
Election Readiness Chair
